So, a few months ago I registered for the 2015 Houston Marathon, which required a lottery selection to ensure a spot (unless you got big bucks and get in another way). So I thought, what the heck. It is in the city I work in, and my chances are probably slim to null, and I can tell my boss who encouraged me to run it last year that I tried.
Well, I got my confirmation a few days ago that I have been selected. I didn’t think it would happen, but it did.
In a way, I am kind of excited, since I need a major goal and commitment (I spend $125 for registration, so you bet I’m committed!) and this may be just the ticket. I have already run two marathons, although not impressive by any means, I know what to expect. Both were run in San Francisco, at the 2012 and 2013 San Francisco marathon. The first was over 6 hours, the second was just under 6 hours. I never fully trained the way I should have, but was happy I shaved 30 minutes from my previous time.
I did not register for the 2014 SF marathon, or any marathons for 2014. I will be running the 2014 Disneyland marathon, which will be my 5th half.
So, I am now on Hal Higdon’s personal best plan, and today is my second day of training, consisting so far of two 3 mile runs.
Since this is my first post, I won’t put down my whole history of why I run when I am not crazy about it, but I’ll share little by little as my training continues. I WILL DO THIS.
